Conference Tournament Sign-ups!

When we're cutting down the nets, you're going to want to be there...

It's the beginning of February, and that means it's time to start thinking about the men's and women's CAA basketball tournaments in Virginia! Both Drexel basketball teams are playing their best ball right now and are in perfect position to make a run in the tournament to reach the Big Dance!

Since there are still a few regular-season games to be played, concrete details are not fully known yet, but here is the key information that you need to know...

  • The men's tournament runs from Friday, March 5th to Monday, March 8th in Richmond, Virginia. The men's first game will be at 8:30 on Friday, so we will leave campus at 12:30 that afternoon, giving us enough time to check into our hotel, get something to eat, and get to the arena. We will stay down there as long as we keep winning, and if they make it all the way to the championship game, we would come back Monday night after the game.
  • The women's tournament goes from Friday, March 12th to Sunday, March 14th in Harrisonburg, Virginia (on JMU's campus). Depending on seeding, we would leave Drexel's campus sometime Friday morning and we will stay down there as long as they keep winning. If they go to the championship game (like they did last year when they won the whole thing), we would come back Sunday night after the game.
  • The costs for the trips are $15 for the men's tournament and $10 for the women's tournament. If you choose to go to both tournaments, you will receive a $5 discount and pay only $20.
  • The money you pay covers the all transportation and lodging. No matter the outcome of the games, we will stay at least one night for each trip, but be prepared to stay up to 3 night for the guys and 2 nights for the girls. Because of weird CAA rules, we cannot purchase your tickets for you, so you will need to bring some cash to pay for tickets when we get there, but they're only $5 each.
Last year we took more than 80 students to the men's tournament and still had a really long waiting list. This year we will have more buses available and can take up to 110 people. We have one bus with 40 spots for the women's tournament.

You can email us at dacpack@gmail.com to sign up. Please include your name, Drexel email address and phone number, and then pay for the trip at an upcoming game. You can also email us with any questions.

SOLD OUT! Record breaking crowd witnesses overtime thriller!

Drexel versus Delaware is usually enough to get people out to see the Dragons in action; but this game had even more. It also featured two of the best players in the nation going head-to-head for the second time in two weeks. Drexel won the last meeting in double-overtime down in Delaware in mid-January. The girls were also riding an 17-game home court winning streak against conference opponents dating back to last season.

So when the DAC Pack was given the task of helping to create the first-ever sellout for a Drexel women's basketball game, we knew it would be easy to fill the student section. Throughout the entire week leading up to the game we just kept telling people those story lines over and over and over as we passed out flyers and tickets.

With everything surrounding the game and the rivalry, it was no surprise that it ended up going into overtime. It was also no surprise that the girls stayed calm the entire time, even after getting down by 4 points quickly in the extra session. They rallied to win the game by two points on Marissa Crane jumper with three seconds left on the clock. They have now played in three overtime games since January 17, winning all of them.

In the final minutes of the game, the capacity crowd of over 2,500 people sounded like it was double that size. Even the coaches loved it with Head Coach Denise Dillon saying "The DAC Pack was phenomenal today."
(Props Drexel's own Mike Mazzeo for putting that quote in his article in the Daily News.)

If you have photos from the game, feel free to share them on our Facebook Fan Page www.facebook.com/dacpack. The girls have a couple tough road games before coming back home to face Northeastern on February 11th.
